₹/kg, ₹/SCM and ₹/litre can't be compared directly. Converting each to cost per kWh of usable energy is the only fair comparison - national averages here, see any city's own page for its real local prices.
PNG (₹4.67/kWh) works out cheaper than LPG (₹4.97/kWh) here, about 6% less per unit of energy, on top of PNG's convenience and safety advantages.
Energy content used: LPG 13.8 kWh/kg, CNG 13.1 kWh/kg, PNG 10.6 kWh/SCM, Auto LPG 6.9 kWh/litre, petrol 9.7 kWh/litre (reference only). National averages shown - a specific city can differ meaningfully from these.
Auto LPG is LPG's automotive-grade version, sold at retail outlets as a vehicle fuel and priced per litre. It costs less than petrol litre for litre, though mileage runs a bit lower, so how much you actually save depends on your vehicle's specific LPG conversion setup.
There's no single national price. Each city gas distribution (CGD) company - IGL in Delhi NCR, MNGL around Pune, and 300+ others licensed city-by-city - sets its own retail price based on its network costs, gas procurement, and transport. Natural gas also sits outside GST, so each state's VAT applies on top and varies the final price further, the same way petrol and diesel differ state to state.
LPG cylinder prices are revised once a month, on the 1st, by the state-owned oil marketing companies. CNG and PNG have no fixed schedule - each CGD operator revises its own price whenever its costs (gas procurement, network expenses) or the state's VAT rate change, which can mean weeks or months between revisions. This page checks for updates daily and only ever shows a "last revised" date it has actually observed, never a predicted one for CNG/PNG.
Auto Gas prices are tracked for 151 cities on this page, each independently observed.
