1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
If you subscribe to updates or contact us by email, we collect the email address and any other details you choose to include in that message. We use this only to respond to you or, if you opted in, to send the updates you asked for.
1.2 Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our server and analytics tools automatically log certain technical information when you visit, including:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it (city/region level, not precise)
- Browser type and version, device type, and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent, referring page, and general usage patterns
- Date and time of access
1.3 Precise location (only if you use "My city")
The "๐ My city" feature on the homepage asks your browser for permission to access your device's precise location, so we can show data for the city nearest you. This only happens if you actively click that button and grant permission in your browser's own prompt. We never access your location otherwise, and the location is used only to find the nearest matching city in that moment; we do not store a history of your locations.
1.4 Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and browser storage for essential site functioning and, in the future, may use them for analytics and advertising. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
2. What We Do Not Collect
To be clear about the limits of what this Site touches, we do not collect:
- Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence, or any other government-issued ID number
- Personal data about identifiable citizens from the government open-data portals we republish, we only pull aggregated, statistical figures (AQI readings, prices, rates), never records about individual people
- Precise location, unless you actively tap "๐ My city" and grant your browser's own permission prompt (Section 1.3)
- Biometric data
- Financial account numbers, card numbers, or payment details, the Site has no checkout, subscription, or payment flow
- Access to your contacts, photos, or device storage
We do not sell, rent, or license your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
Data Minimization & Compliance
IndiaRealTime.com's core service operates on a privacy-first, no-login architecture - no account, sign-up, or the items listed above is ever required or collected to access any live data feature. Our own server-side logging is restricted to non-identifiable technical metrics (such as page views and error rates), used solely to operate and improve platform stability and API performance, consistent with the data-minimization principle under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. This is separate from the narrower, opt-in case of third-party advertising and analytics cookies described in Section 4 below, which only activate with consent where required.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To operate and improve the Site, and to show you data relevant to your chosen or detected location
- To respond to enquiries, feedback, or support requests you send us
- To send you updates, if and only if you have opted in to receive them
- To understand aggregate usage patterns (which pages, cities, and services are most used) so we can improve the Site
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or security issues
- To display advertising and track affiliate referrals, where applicable (see Section 4 below)
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
4. Advertising, Analytics and Affiliate Links
IndiaRealTime is an independently run informational service. To help cover the cost of running it, the Site may, now or in the future, display advertising and/or contain affiliate links. This section applies whenever those are active.
3.1 Google AdSense / Google Ads
The Site may use Google AdSense or other Google advertising services to display ads. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
3.2 Affiliate links
Some links on the Site may be affiliate links. If you click one and go on to make a purchase or sign up with that third party, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We only link to services relevant to the content on the page they appear on, and an affiliate relationship never influences the factual data (rates, prices, weather figures) we publish.
3.3 Analytics
We may use analytics services (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the Site in aggregate. These services may set their own cookies; see our Cookie Policy.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal data. We may share information with:
- Service providers who host the Site, serve ads, or provide analytics on our behalf (e.g. our web hosting provider, Google), bound to use it only to provide that service
- Legal authorities, if required to comply with a valid legal request under Indian law
- Successors, if the Site is ever transferred as part of a business transition (you would be notified of any change to this policy as a result)
Underlying weather, air quality, commodity price, and Panchang data displayed on the Site is sourced from public government open-data portals and licensed third-party APIs. This is published content, not information about you.
6. Data Security
We follow reasonable security practices consistent with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a personal data breach that is likely to risk your rights or interests, we will notify affected users, and the Data Protection Board of India where required, without undue delay and consistent with the timelines the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its rules prescribe.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected for. Contact-form and email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to resolve your query, unless you've separately opted in to updates. Automatically-logged technical data (Section 1.2) is retained in aggregate/anonymised form for site analytics and typically cleared of any identifying detail after a limited period. Underlying public weather, air quality, commodity, and similar data (Section 5) isn't personal data and isn't covered by this section. See our About Us page for how often each data source refreshes.
9. Your Rights Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
If you are located in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) gives you the following rights over your personal data that we hold:
- Right to access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed
- Right to correction and updating of inaccurate or incomplete personal data
- Right to erasure of personal data that is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected
- Right to grievance redressal: you may raise a complaint with us directly (see Section 12), and if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India
- Right to nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity
- Right to withdraw consent at any time, for anything we process based on your consent (e.g. email updates)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will acknowledge requests promptly and aim to resolve them within a reasonable time, consistent with applicable law.
10. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Visitors and GDPR (EEA/UK)
The Site is hosted and operated with India as its primary audience, but is publicly accessible worldwide. If you access the Site from outside India, your information may be processed on servers located in India or other countries where our hosting or service providers operate.
We don't specifically target or run marketing campaigns aimed at the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK; any visits from there are incidental to operating a public website. As good housekeeping, if you're in the EEA or UK, here's how the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) / UK GDPR applies:
- Legal basis for processing: we process the technical data in Section 1.2 under legitimate interests (operating and securing the Site); anything you submit voluntarily (Section 1.1) is processed on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; advertising/analytics cookies are only set with your consent where required (see our Cookie Policy)
- Your GDPR rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing, in addition to the rights listed in Section 9 above. Contact us using the details in Section 12 to exercise any of these
- Right to complain to your local supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK) if you believe we've mishandled your data
- EU/UK representative: given the Site's India-first audience and that we don't systematically or large-scale process EEA/UK residents' data, we haven't appointed a dedicated Article 27 representative; the Grievance Officer in Section 12 is your point of contact for EEA/UK privacy queries too
12. Grievance Officer and Contact
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules made thereunder, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Grievance Officer for IndiaRealTime is:
Name: Padmaraj
Email: privacy@indiarealtime.com
Response: complaints are acknowledged promptly and addressed as soon as reasonably possible
For any other privacy question, write to privacy@indiarealtime.com.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example as we add advertising, affiliate partnerships, or new features. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
