Today's Muhurat

Many people time significant purchases within the day's Abhijit Muhurat and avoid starting them during Rahu Kalam - the same general practice already stated on this site's own Muhurat page, not a gold-specific rule.

Abhijit Muhurat (favourable) 11:56 AM โ€“ 12:47 PM
Rahu Kalam (traditionally avoided) 3:33 PM โ€“ 5:09 PM

What is Gold Rate and Muhurat?

This page puts two things that already exist separately on this site on one screen: today's actual gold price, and today's Abhijit Muhurat and Rahu Kalam windows, the same daily auspicious and inauspicious timings shown on this site's own Muhurat page. It exists because plenty of people checking the gold rate before a purchase are also, separately, checking what time of day is considered favourable, and normally that means two different tabs. One honest thing worth saying upfront: this page does not tell you whether today itself is auspicious for buying gold specifically, that kind of event-specific reading needs additional factors beyond a single day's general timings, and is genuinely better worked out with a priest than read off any website. What it does show is real: today's price, and today's general daily windows.

How Abhijit Muhurat and Rahu Kalam Are Calculated

Both windows are computed daily from the Sun and Moon's exact position for that date, the same underlying Panchang calculation this site's dedicated Muhurat page uses, refreshed once a day. Abhijit Muhurat is a short window, roughly midday, generally considered the most favourable period of the day for starting something important. Rahu Kalam is a roughly 90-minute window that shifts to a different part of the day depending on the weekday and that day's sunrise and sunset, traditionally avoided for starting anything significant, a journey, signing documents, a large purchase. Neither is gold-specific; both apply to the day as a whole.

How to Read the Gold Price Alongside It

The price shown is the 24 karat spot rate per gram, the same national, before-GST-and-making-charges figure shown on this site's main gold price page, alongside how it compares to yesterday and to the last 30 days. A move under half a percent in a day is routine. A move of one to two percent is worth noticing if a purchase is coming up soon. There's no colour-coded scale here the way there is for something like air quality, direction and size of the move is what matters.

Best Way to Use This Page

If a gold purchase is already planned for today, this page gives both real numbers at a glance instead of two separate lookups, today's price and today's general windows. If it isn't urgent, tracking the price over a few days usually matters more than which specific hour of one day it's bought in, prices move more from day to day than muhurat windows shift in favourability. For an actual auspicious-date decision tied to a specific festival or family event, this site's Panchang and Muhurat pages carry the underlying daily data a priest would start from.

Why Gold Rate and Muhurat Matters: Timing a Purchase

Practical impact: Someone about to buy gold jewellery or coins today typically checks two things separately: is the price reasonable right now, and is there a favourable window to make the trip. Putting both on one page saves the second lookup without pretending to answer a question the data can't honestly answer, whether today itself counts as auspicious for gold specifically. Plenty of families already plan a jewellery-shop visit around the day's Abhijit Muhurat or make a point of avoiding Rahu Kalam for anything they consider a significant purchase, the same general practice this site's own Muhurat page documents for any important activity, not something specific to gold.

Price-timing impact: Of the two numbers on this page, price is the one that actually moves meaningfully day to day, a percent or two isn't unusual, while Abhijit Muhurat and Rahu Kalam are daily fixtures that shift in clock time but not in what they represent. For a purchase that isn't tied to one specific date, tracking the price over a few days and picking a day whose Rahu Kalam doesn't clash with when the shop visit would actually happen is a reasonable, honest way to use both numbers together, without needing either to carry more meaning than it actually has.
